Joan Sung

National Sentinel

Joan has served the San Francisco Lodge in various capacities since 1991: Associate; Secretary; Vice President; Real Estate and Investment Committee member; and Chair of numerous activities over the years. Presently, as Grand Sentinel, Joan coordinates the Lodge's participation in the National Archives Documentation Project, working closely with data collection and data entry volunteers.

Joan was born and raised in Hawaii and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from San Francisco State and the University of San Francisco, respectively. As an educator, she worked for the San Francisco Unified School District as a teacher, and the Novato Unified School District as a teacher, teacher advisor, and ultimately as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for grades K-12, until her retirement in 1998. Joan has also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Dominican University in San Rafael. She trained leadership teams, and advised school districts in the Bay Area.

Joan and her husband Charles, currently marshal of the San Francisco Lodge, reside in San Francisco, and have two daughters and two grandsons who live in the Bay Area.
